Visible effects of Equine Massage Therapy on your horse's skin

During and after treatment with Equine Massage Therapy you may notice some visible changes to your horse’s skin 😯

These are completely normal and nothing to worry about 👍🏻

Today I wanted to discuss some of these changes and what they mean 🧐

▪️Some horses may develop small round raised patches on their skin after treatment (as seen in the top image)

▪️These are caused by an increased production of sweat from the sweat glands, helping to excrete urea and waste products or toxins through the skin’s surface.

▪️They usually go down after a few hours, however in some cases may take up to 24 hours to clear.

▪️They may look alarming but there is no cause to panic it is one of the means by which the metabolic waste products are dispersed. Leaving the skin and underlying structures more supple and healthy and therefore glossy and shiny <3

🔹Some horses may have raised blood vessels (as seen in the bottom image) due to increased vasodilation which is a benefit commonly gained through an Equine Massage treatment

🔹Vasodilation is where blood vessels widen and come closer to the surface of the skin

🔹Vasodilation increases blood flow, reduces swelling and also helps with the regulation of body temperature

🔹Increasing blood flow helps to carry metabolic wastes and excess fluids away from the muscles and out through the endocrine and lymphatic system within the body as well as providing the muscles and skin with an increase of oxygen and nutrients that help to maintain their health and speed up recovery time 👍🏻

🔹Vasodilation of the surface capillaries also helps to improve the colour of the skin and improve elasticity. Meaning your horse’s skin will look and feel great too ♥️
