About

Hi, I am Jess. I have been around horses my entire life. Taking early inspiration from my grandad who was in the racing industry and thanks to my father I was able to have my first pony at the age of 11, a Palomino Welsh C Mare called Nancy. The perfect princess pony.

I have been lucky enough to own, ride and train a number of horses over the years and also to work within point to point, showing and breeding yards, as well as international level competition yards.

My passion is dressage training in hand & ridden as well as horsemanship & liberty training. Since 2008 I have worked hard to study this way with horses and have had some personal success with it.

I also enjoy hacking my horses and just generally spending time hanging out with them.

I have always had a keen interest in the way the horse moves and interacts on a physical and emotional level. However it wasn’t until my a certain little mare came into my life in 2015 that I felt I really wanted to learn more.

It was clear to me that she had some physical issues which were highlighting her already sensitive nature and I wanted to do whatever I could to help make her more comfortable both physically and mentally.

Hola Senorita is sadly no longer with us, but without the challenges I faced with her I would not have embarked on this special journey as a professional.

I am now continuing my horsemanship journey with my Welsh Section D Gelding Eric, who I have started and produced myself and who provides me with learning opportunities each and every day.

My practitioner training in Equine Massage was with Centaur Equine Massage Training which is a registered training provider and the course has been externally accredited by the UK Rural skills, as an approved UK Rural Skills training school.

Over the 2 year long course I completed 3 course modules each with coursework submitted and written examinations, as well as practical training days. I also completed case studies which are detailed practical treatments and written studies of 10 different horses. Finally I completed a practical treatment exam and a written examination for both of which I received Distinction pass rates.

My studies over the years since enable me to offer the following manual therapies: sports, remedial and healing massage therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisations, musculoskeletal testing, Lymphatic drainage massage and gentle stretching. As well as postural and biomechanical static and dynamic assessments and excercise prescription.

Due to further research and study I am also able to offer treatment with the following tools: The FascialEdge® tool, Heat Therapy, Kinesiology Taping, Balance Pads, Phototonic red light & PEMF (Pulsed Electromagntic Therapy). Find out more about these additional therapies here.

I am an FEI Permitted Therapist, meaning I can work on horses whilst they are competing at FEI events.

I am fortunate enough to be the home massage therapist for many horses competing under FEI rules across the disciplines and am experienced in working alongside the Team Physiotherapists, Saddle Fitters, Farriers & Vets as well as the home teams.

I have also been part of the team at Horses Inside Out since February 2020, working closely with founder Gillian Higgins, creating blog articles and assisting with many different projects including painting anatomical structures on horses, taking part in demonstrations and filming, creating exhibits for the anatomy exhibitions and taking part in whole horse dissections.

I am passionate about CPD and constantly continue to extend my knowledge and skills in order to improve on how I can help your horses. You can find out about all the additional training I have done here.
