Introduction to Vibration Therapy using the Thumper® Equine Pro

Hello and welcome to my blog!

This week I would like to introduce you all to Vibration Therapy using the Thumper® Equine Pro.

Vibration Therapy is something I offer as part of a follow up treatment, after I have fully assessed and treated the horse for the first time.

I always fully assess the horse with my hands before recommending or applying techniques with any tools / machines.

A course of Thumper® Equine Pro treatments can be extremely beneficial for horses with built up tension in the larger muscle groups.

The Thumper® Equine Pro is perfect for working on the larger muscles groups such as the Gluteal muscles in the horse’s rump.

What is the Thumper® Equine Pro?

Thumper® has been used with remarkable success on race horses, show jumpers, western reining horses, dressage horses, eventing, professional cutting horses, polo ponies, draft horses and driving teams.

Even if your horse is not an athlete, Thumper® is great for horses that don’t get enough exercise or those that just need some pampering.

Thumper® tapotement action sends energy deep into the fascia layer, increasing blood supply and nutrition to the muscles which helps prevent the buildup of harmful “fatigue” products resulting from strenuous exercise or injury.

Application

The Thumper® Equine Pro is applied to the larger muscle masses of the horse, mainly the neck, chest, shoulders and hind quarters. The intensity of the treatment applied can be adjusted depending on the sensitivity of the horse and the area the tool is being applied to.

Please note that an electricity supply is required in order for me to use this therapy on your horse. The tool has it’s own ground fault circuit interrupter and is therefore safe to use in a stable environment.

Most horses readily accept the Thumper® Equine Pro massager and enjoy the treatment, however it may not be suitable for horses that are not comfortable with the electric cable being around their body or horses that are not usually comfortable with the vibration or sound of clippers.

Benefits

  • The Thumper® Equine Pro has a large massage section which is ideal for horse and their larger muscle groups. Massage improves circulation and nutrition of joints, and hastens the elimination of harmful deposits. It helps lessen inflammation and swelling in joints and so alleviates pain.

  • Great tool for pre competition treatment to stimulate blood flow and warm up muscles as well as psychologically stimulate the horse.

  • Great tool for post competition treatment to assist in draining toxins from the muscles, assist in a slow cool down and gradual reduction of the heart rate, promoting post exercise physical and psychological relaxation.

  • Beneficial for horses that are inactive for long periods of time due to injury, illness, or age to assist in the process of lymphatic drainage (e.g preventing filled legs) and assist in releasing contracted muscle groups to regain effective and free locomotion.
