CPD with Jo Rose - Rose Holistic Therapies and Training

This week I was really excited to get out to my first LIVE CPD course since the pandemic shut everything down!

Finally a chance to get some more learning experience face to face with actual real people and horses.

I chose to book onto a course with Jo Rose of Rose Holistic Therapies and Training after hearing great things about Jo from some of my peers.

The course was Equine Mobilisation, Positional Releases and METs (CPD for equine practitioners)

The day was held in Oxfordshire, so a 1hr 40 min drive for me, but the long drive was well worth it.

Due to COVID regulations the group was small, just 5 students and Jo tutoring us.

I liked this though as I felt a bit more confident asking questions as it was only in front of a few people.

The morning was spent in the classroom, where Jo presented us with:

  • A review of current trigger point theory and physiology, and treatment

  • An over-view of positional release techniques, related physiology and application to horses

  • An over-view of Muscle Energy Techniques, related physiology and application to horses

This came with a ring bound booklet of the slides which we could annotate and take home with us.

Prior to the day we had been sent a multi-page print out demonstrating mobilisation techniques for multiple parts of the horse’s body. Some were revision for me but there were a few in there that were new which was cool, as I am always looking for new techniques to try.

In the afternoon we met at a yard nearby where we were able to put the theory we had learnt in the morning into practice on some horses.

Jo first demonstrated some of the techniques on one of the horses while we watched on.

I was fascinated by the feel Jo has, it is on another level, and showed me how much I still have to learn and improve on. She is certainly a very talented therapist.

It was also really nice to be able to share and discuss ideas not only with Jo but also with the other therapists on the course. Most of us were massage therapists but one lady was also a chiropractor.

It was great to learn how we can use mobilisations to test and assess as well as treat. And how MET’s can be used to release the soft tissue in such a gentle way with amazing results.

Positional release and METs were a totally new concept for me but certainly things that I will now be building in to my treatment sessions.

I would definitely recommend CPD courses with Jo Rose to any of my peers and am hoping to book onto some more of Jo’s courses in the future.

Look out for upcoming blogs where I will be sharing more about these techniques and how they can benefit your horses.
